• The general rule for urn size is one cubic inch per pound of person. However in the case where a loved one spreads some ashes or retains them, a smaller urn can be purchased and used. The urn must fit in the niche so its outer dimensions are critical. A niche is one cubic foot, 12" x 12" x 12", so the urn can be checked using the niche model in our church office. 

• Moisture will enter the niches so urns need to be weather resistant. Recommended materials include ceramic, glass, stone and metals such as aluminum, stainless steel and brass. An alternative example to a traditional urn could be a toolbox, candy jar, ammo case or any other durable container that reflects the personality of the deceased.
